Price and Alternative Options
The Arlo Pro 5 has an RRP of £219.99, which is the same as the Arlo Pro 4.
The Arlo Pro 5 two-camera kit is £430, and if you want the optional Smart Hub with microSD storage, this is an additional £180.
You can currently get the Arlo Pro 4 for around £200, and Amazon has a 2-camera kit + Smart Hub for around £500.
The Eufy eufyCam 3C needs to be bought as a two or three-camera system. It is £469.99 RRP for the 2-camera kit. There is also the Eufy eufyCam 3C Pro which has a small solar panel that claims to have up to 365 days of storage.
Arlo Secure
As always, you should factor in the running costs of an Arlo system. If you are running multiple Arlo Pro 5 cameras, or any camera that is not 4K, then the best option will be the £8.99 per month plan, which gives you unlimited cameras and 30 days of recording.
For comparison, Ring is priced at £8pcm and covers unlimited devices with 180 recordings.
Eufy doesn’t require a subscription which is one of the main selling points. However, they do have a cloud storage option, and ironically, it is worse value for money than Arlo and Ring. It is priced at $10 per month for up to 10 devices and is limited to 1080P. If you enable this on the eufyCam 3C, it switches the camera to 1080P. So, the Eufy cloud storage is really poor value for money.
Overall
The Arlo Pro 5 is a good incremental upgrade from the Arlo Pro 4. Arlo has focussed on the two most important areas that battery-powered security cameras struggle with, battery performance and night time recordings.
Even though I didn’t experience many benefits from the new 12-bit sensor in my garden due to the street lighting, I am confident it will work well in very low light conditions.
I really hate having to charge devices regularly, and it is especially annoying if you have multiple cameras. Therefore any improvement in the battery is a major selling point for me. For the Arlo Pro 5, there is definitely a significant improvement in battery, but like all of these cameras, it is well under the quoted values.
